The HTC Titan is a massive phone and has
been appropriately named to reflect its large size. If you have large
hands or just like a huge smartphone, you will love this HTC model that
is over 5 inches tall. Apart from having a lot to offer in the size
department, the HTC Titan also has a number of great specs that will
keep you smiling for as long as you use the phone. In the sections
below, we shall take a closer look at the HTC Titan specs.
HTC Titan specs
The Good about the HTC Titan specs
It is a substantial phone that is massive both on the inside and outside. It comes with a really quick 1.5 GHz processor for Qualcomm and has a great looking Super LCD display. To top things off, the phone looks vibrant with the Windows 7.5 Mango operating system that is also refreshingly easy to use. Apart from these HTC Titan specs, the Titan also features a 8MP camera in the back that is accompanied by a 1.3 MP camera in the front, to make video calls. The 8MP camera has a panoramic picture mode.
The Bad about the HTC Titan specs
If you have small hands, this is going to look more like a tablet than a phone in your hands. But, nobody in their right mind would buy a phone so large unless they specifically like a large phone. So, there shouldn’t be any issues there.Another slight disappointment is that large display sometimes reveals pixels, especially when there is a lot of text being displayed on the screen.
Summary of the HTC Titan specs
HTC smartphones have always come with the Android operating system. If you want a HTC phone that sports a refreshingly different Windows 7.5 Mango operating system, you will love this Windows phone that also has a great display, great performance levels and a very fun camera as well. It retails for $199.999 with a two year contract from AT&T and is well worth the price, in our opinion.
Design – HTC Titan specs
As mentioned earlier, the HTC Titan specs are massive when it comes to physical size dimensions. The phone is 5.2 inches in height and 2.7 inches wide. The thickness is set at 0.39 inches. Though the phone looks massive from the front, the side view can lend it a very sophisticated and sleek look. The phone will slightly weigh down your pocket or your handbag as it weighs a substantial 5.6 ounces.
The actual size of the screen, when diagonally measured, is 4.7 inches. The screen is a Super LCD screen that is capable of putting out a very nice looking 800X480 pixel resolution. But, the screen can show up some pixels when a lot of text is being displayed, as mentioned earlier.
Windows 7.5 Mango – HTC Titan specs
The HTC Titan specs are very different from many of the other HTC smartphones as the Titan carries the Windows 7.5 Mango operating system. Honestly, we think that the Mango OS has not got its due credit in the cellphone market that is still obsessed with the Android and iOS user interface. Integration to social networks and Microsoft based services like Hotmail or LiveId services are such a breeze on this phone.
The only problem with the Windows Mango 7.5 OS is that the apps marketplace leaves a lot to be desired. While the Apple App marketplace has more than 300,000 apps and the Android market place has more than 200,000 Apps, the Windows marketplace is a very long way away with just 35,000 apps in their database. But then again, some people don’t really constantly download and use Apps on their phone. Some people might find the HTC Titan specs to be more than sufficient just as it is, when it is taken out of the box. So, whether you like the HTC Titan specs in regards to the Windows Mango OS is something that will be left to you.
Camera – HTC Titan specs
The 8MP camera on the HTC Titan is an instant winner. The camera is equipped with a couple of LED flashes that will allow the user to shoot pictures even in very low light conditions. The 8MP camera is also capable of capturing video in 720P HD mode. One small drawback to the HTC Titan specs in regards to the camera is that the Titan only comes with 16GB of storage space. So, if you take a lot of high quality pictures, you will quickly run up the storage space on this phone. While most smartphones come with an expandable SD slot, there is none in the HTC Titan.
Call quality – HTC Titan specs
Call quality was about average. The HTC Titan has the ability to mute out background noises but it also alters the speaker’s voice in the process. Sometimes, the caller using the HTC Titan can sound like they are talking into the phone that is about a half a foot away, instead of sounding like they are talking right into the phone.
Data transfer speeds – HTC Titan specs
The HTC Titan specs include 4G support. As we have mentioned several times on our Apple Biter’s blog, the industry is still divided on whether or not HSPA+ is considered to be 4G. The Titan only supports HSPA+ and not the 4G LTE network that is provided by AT&T, that contracts this phone out to customers. But, HSPA+ speeds are definitely faster than 3G speeds. Activities like video streaming on the HTC Titan take just a couple of seconds of buffering before playing quite smoothly. With 4G LTE networks, video playback is almost instantaneous. But, most users will be happy to wait just a couple of seconds to allow the multimedia to stream.
Processor and performance – HTC Titan specs
The HTC Titan specs include a single core 1.5GHz Snapdragon processor from Qualcomm. This is accompanied with 512 MB RAM. Though this phone might not beat out the several dual core processors that are available in Android and present generation iPhones, it definitely does the tasks that are requested through the Windows Mango 7.5 OS. The user will generally not experience any king of lag time in operating this phone.
Battery life – HTC Titan specs
The large size of the phone has allowed HTC to put in a battery that can provide the user with more than 11 hours of talk time. On standby, the phone can last for just over two weeks.
Conclusion – HTC Titan specs
If you can get away from the hustle and bustle of the Android phone marketplace and give this Windows based HTC smartphone a chance, you will definitely like the zippy 1.5GHz single core processor, the improved look of the Mango OS as well as the phone’s fantastic 8MP camera. Additional goodies like HSPA+ support and a large screen size might give you just that little extra incentive to buy this Windows phone for yourself.
The HTC Titan was a great phone and still is. But, will the iPhone 5 specs make it look like an amateur phone?
