Samsung Focus Specs – 4 Inch Windows Phone

Depending on which carrier you are with, you might be sick and tired of the Android phones that are being offered to you. If not for Android phones, you have the choice of choosing the iPhone 4 or the iPhone 4S. But, if you don’t want those either, you can always consider the all new Windows smartphones that have hit the market with a lot of force. Among the leading contenders in the Windows smartphone category is the Samsung Focus. Below, we will take a closer look at the Samsung Focus specs.

The Good about the Samsung Focus specs
You will love the user interface of the Windows 7 (Mango) operating system. With its live tiles, hubs and dynamic widgets, this Windows phone will offer you a welcome break from the rather boring and cluttered Android and iOS operating systems. The Samsung Focus specs that really impress are the great 4 inch Super AMOLED screen that looks brilliant on the Focus. The phone is also equipped to handle a lot of multimedia activities and it is also equipped with a very capable camera, making it a great smartphone that you can use for fun as well as for work.
The Bad about the Samsung Focus specs
Oddly enough, the phone doesn’t do a lot of things in landscape mode. So, if you are used to landscape modes on Android phones, you might find it a little bewildering to understand why the Samsung Focus just doesn’t layout everything for you in a landscape mode, when you tilt the phone sideways. Also, we thought that the Samsung Focus specs were a bit of a let down in the build quality department as a little more than a usual amount of plastic seems to have been used.
Summary of the Samsung Focus specs
If you want an user interface that looks like a happening place and not present the usual cluttered list of tray like icons, you will love the Samsung Focus. Apart from the software, the phone has a lot to offer in the multimedia and camera department as well. Find a more detailed review of the Samsung Focus specs below. Since it also retails for a very attractive price of $199.99, it might just make you skip on Android and iPhones that seem to be a tad overpriced at the moment.
Design – Samsung Focus specs
The Focus is a pretty good sized phone, with the height coming in at 4.9 inches. It is 2.5 inches in width and just .4 inches thick. Though the phone doesn’t feel flimsy or light, you will know that you are holding plastic. The usable screen size on this phone is 4 inches and the display is a Super AMOLED display. Just like how Android phones have four default buttons at the bottom of the screen, the Windows 7 phone like the Samsung Focus will have three default buttons at the bottom of the screen. One is a back button, one is a Windows key and the other is a search key. They are all capacitive buttons and not physical buttons.
Windows 7 – Samsung Focus specs
The Samsung Focus specs include the Windows 7 (Mango) OS. We really like this user interface. We are also very surprised that it hasn’t caught on with the public, to a larger extent. The home screen shows large live tiles that can be rearranged and moved around, according to the user’s preferences. A live tile can be set for any function. For example, you can create a live tile and just assign it as a contact, a particular webpage or as a launch button for an application.
We thought that was pretty cool. It is pretty useful too. If you swipe the phone’s screen sideways, you will get a lot of hubs that are separated on a category basis. For example, you will see hubs called People that will help you manage your social network contacts and phone contacts, all in one place. Refreshing is the best word we would use to describe the Windows 7 operating system.
The only thing that might fall short when it comes to Samsung Focus specs in regards to software is that app support is almost non existent at the moment. Currently, there are only about 500 installable apps for the Samsung Focus although Microsoft plans to add several hundred more, on a weekly basis.
Camera – Samsung Focus specs
Though the Samsung Focus specs only include a 5MP camera, we have to say that picture quality was quite great. In fact, we would be bold enough to say that the camera on the Samsung Focus actually beats out several 8MP cameras that are being sold in other higher priced smartphones today. Sharing photos with social networks on Microsoft’s SkyDrive (Something similar to the iPhone’s DropBox app) is extremely easy.
5MP Samsung Focus Camera actually takes better pictures than some 8MP phone cameras
Browsing experience – Samsung Focus specs
The mobile version of the Internet Explorer is great. It will allow you to open 6 different windows all at once. The phone even provides thumbnail pictures of your open windows to make toggling between each one of them really easy and convenient. The problem with the mobile browser is that there is no support for Flash. There is no support for HTML 5 either. As you might have already read, HTML 5 is supposed to be the future replacement of Flash and it was a little disappointing to know that Samsung Focus specs doesn’t support either platforms. But, there are rumors that the Samsung Focus specs will soon include support for both or at least one of the platforms.
Multimedia capabilities – Samsung Focus specs
Windows 7 on the Samsung Focus actually integrates Zune software, to make multimedia a whole lot of fun on the Samsung Focus
The Samsung Focus specs include the Zune HD interface that makes multimedia a whole amount of fun. The display is very clean, without annoying or ugly tool bars that show when you play music or audio. But, as soon as you touch the volume button, a very neat and sophisticated little tool bar will allow you to make adjustments to the volume or video, without diluting the multimedia experience. Interestingly, the Samsung Focus specs include synchronization capabilities with the Mac computer. We are not sure how many Mac owners are out there, with the Samsung Focus in their hands. But, if there are some, they will find it quite handy to use the application to sync the Samsung Focus with their iTunes.
Call quality – Samsung Focus specs
Call quality is excellent. Background noise is eliminated to a great extent and the voice over is one of the clearest and sharpest sounds that you will receive on a smartphone today.
Processor and performance – Samsung Focus specs
The Samsung Focus specs include a 1 GHz single core processor. Internal memory is quite low, with just 8GB of space on offer. Even the expandability is limited to just 16GB. So, if are a heavy media user, you might want to be doubly sure about the storage requirements before you buy this phone. While general navigation was very smooth and fluid, more processor intensive applications like games took a little more time to launch. But, once launched, everything was smooth and fluid again.
Battery life – Samsung Focus specs
The Samsung Focus specs will provide you with about 6 hours of continuous talk time which is pretty impressive when you consider the fact that the phone uses just a 1,500 mAH battery. On standby, the phone can last for about 12 days. If you use your phone to make calls, surf a few webpages and even watch a movie and listen to songs, it should still last you for at least one whole day, if not longer.
Conclusion – Samsung Focus specs
The Windows 7 User Interface on the Samsung Focus is a breath of fresh air. This alone can give you enough reason to buy the Samsung Focus
The Samsung Focus is a great phone if you are looking for a fun and efficient smartphone that comes with a price tag of less than $200. The most exciting aspect to this phone is the Windows 7 user interface which is much more vibrant and easy to use than both the Android or the iOS operating system.
Do you only like Windows phones or are you open to the iPhone with the iOS as well. The iPhone 5 could pack quite a punch as it has been under development for almost two years now. Read about the iPhone 5 specs that might catch everyone by surprise.
