The Motorola Droid Bionic is an
incredibly popular phone. There was a lot of hype about this phone as
Motorola began to make noise about it almost a year before its release.
When it finally hit the market, people loved it as it has a lot to
offer. Let us take a closer look at the Motorola Droid Bionic specs
below.
Droid Bionic Specs
The Good about the Droid Bionic specs
There are so many things to list here. We will go over the most attractive features on this phone first. You can read through the other Droid Bionic specs below. To start off, the phone supports 4G LTE speeds that can give you download speeds of almost 30Mbps. The phone has a gorgeous looking 4.3 inch screen that puts out a qHD resolution. It has a blazing fast dual core processor. To top it all off, it has some pretty cool connectivity options, where you can connect the Droid Bionic to a laptop and pretty much use it as a secondary computer. The phone also has several security features that will allow you to use it as a serious business phone.
The Bad about the Droid Bionic specs
The bad about the Droid Bionic specs really have to do with the price. Though the phone has several connectivity options, allowing it to be hooked up to a laptop, the laptop dock can cost a cool $300 dollars which is actually more than the cost of the phone itself, depending on where you buy it.But, to negate this, Motorola have also provided a $30 Webtop adapter that will also get the job done, although in a much less fancier way.
Summary of the Droid Bionic specs
If price doesn’t thwart your purchase of this phone, there are so many things to love about it. Most importantly, it has 4G LTE support. If you are a power user, constantly using your smartphone to access the web or several web based applications, it doesn’t really get much better than the Droid Bionic when it comes to smartphones available in the market today.
Design – Droid Bionic specs
This phone is tipped to be the thinnest 4G LTE phone in the market, at least for now. It is 5 inches in length, 2.63 inches in width and just .43 inches in thickness. The .43 inches thickness is particularly impressive as some of the comparable 4G LTE phone have thickness that is usually in the .6+ inches range. Though it is not a very large phone in dimensions, the weight is pretty solid at 5.6 ounces. Most of the weight comes from the metal that has been used in the phone’s construction. But, we are not complaining as metal on the phone makes the phone look sophisticated and expensive. There are just too many smartphones out there that carry way too much plastic.
The usable screen size on this phone is 4.3 inches. It sports a qHD display that puts out a very vibrant 960X540 pixel resolution. The screen has a scratch resistant glass, a light sensor as well as a proximity sensor.
4G LTE support – Droid Bionic specs
As mentioned earlier, the highlight of the Droid Bionic specs is 4G LTE capabilities. Browsing is a whole new experience on this phone, especially if you are coming from a 3G or even a HSPA supported phone. The browser is designed to accommodate HTML5 support that is going to be the future replacement of Flash. Though 4G LTE speeds can give you a maximum of 30Mbps download speeds, you are more likely to get about 10Mbps in download speeds and about 5Mbps in upload speeds, when you use the Droid Bionic in your network area. This will only continue to increase in the future as the 4G LTE network is expanded and optimized throughout the country. The picture below shows exceptional results that are possible only in certain hotspots of the 4G LTE network.
With those kind of speeds, there won’t be any buffering when you load up YouTube videos or multimedia rich websites. These are problems you will have with phones that do not have 4G LTE speeds. Even the HSPA+ enabled phones will encounter some level of buffering. But, speeds are lighting quick on the Droid Bionic and you definitely will not be disappointed if you are getting this phone for its 4G capabilities. Just check with your network provider to see if 4G is offered in your area as the network is still being rolled out across the nation.
Camera – Droid Bionic specs
Droid Bionic specs include a 8MP camera in the back and a front facing camera as well. The 8MP camera is aided by a LED flash. Oddly, the Droid Bionic specs do not include a dual LED flash. There is just a single LED flash. A dual LED flash would have really not given us anything to complain about, when it comes to the Droid Bionic specs in the camera department.
Anyways, the camera is still a top performer. In both indoor and outdoor shots, the color reproduction was top notch. Generally, with cell phone cameras, indoor shots always tend to be poorer in quality than outdoor shots. Not so with the Droid Bionic camera.
Another very impressive fact about the Droid Bionic specs in the camera department is that the camera is capable of 1080P HD video recording. Motorola understood that such a high resolution video mode will go nicely with DLNA support and have provided the same. DLNA support will allow users to transfer images and media, without wires, to other DLNA compatible devices like HD TV’s. The 1080 P video recording is great although we would have liked to see a video stabilization mode. Unless you have incredibly still hands, the video is going to be just a little shaky.
Call quality – Droid Bionic specs
Call quality on the whole is very good. When you talk into the Droid Bionic, the person on the other end will probably be able to tell that your voice is not 100% natural. The phone has a tendency to give your voice a slightly altered tone. However, it is not bad enough for the other person to not recognize a familiar caller’s voice. They will usually get used to the slightly new voice in just a minute or two.
The speakerphone calls on the Droid Bionic were pretty good. Like how echo affects many speakerphone calls, there is a little bit of an echo effect with the Droid Bionic as well, although it is not too serious.
Connecting the Droid Bionic to the laptop – Droid Bionic specs
We thought we will write out a small section to explain the Droid Bionic specs in relation to the connectivity options with a laptop. The phone uses a Webtop application to allow a user to access the phone through a laptop. The phone can be connected to a laptop in one of three ways. One can either use a laptop dock (about $300!), a HD Station (about $100) or Webtop adapter ($30, thankfully!) to connect the Doird Bionic. The laptop dock and HD Station connections are pretty cool although they are just way too expensive for our liking.
The idea behind the Webtop connections is to be able to allow the
business user to easily download complex office documents like large and
detailed excel sheets that might be difficult to view and edit on the
Droid’s screen, even though it is a 4.3 inches screen. If you are a
power user who really needs to connect your phone to your laptop on a
consistent basis, you might find these connectivity options useful.
However, we would say that the $30 Webtop adapter will be a wise choice
even if it is not as fancy as the other two connection options that are
just ridiculously priced.
Processor and performance – Droid Bionic specs
Droid Bionic specs include a dual core 1GHz processor that is ably supported by 1GB RAM. Nothing is left to chance in the processor and memory department and the phone will tackle any number of tasks you throw at it, without ever slowing down. This is a top notch phone when it comes to pure performance. The 4G LTE speeds, coupled with the dual core processor, deliver an amazing web browsing experience.
Battery life – Droid Bionic specs
The Droid Bionic specs include a large 1,730 mAh battery that can deliver a very impressive 8 hours of continuous talk time, on a 4G LTE network. When you turn off 4G LTE mode and use it on a more conservative 3G network, continuous talk time can be extended to over 10 hours. On standby mode, the phone can be used for about 16 days.
Conclusion – Droid Bionic specs
There are many things to like about the Droid Bionic specs. The brilliant display, the super fast processor and 4G LTE support are just some of them. Additional goodies are the 8MP camera, 1080P video capture and the stylish design. The only letdown for this phone is the costly connectivity options that you may have to buy if you want to connect your Bionic to your laptop. But, since that is optional, we have to say that the Droid Bionic is a pretty exciting purchase. With all the specs mentioned above, it is no wonder that this is one of the hottest selling smartphones in the market today.
